About

Claudia Moore – lifelong dancer, performer, teacher, mentor, community dance leader, Dancing with Parkinson’s instructor and founding Artistic Director of Moonhorse Dance Theatre (MDT)/Older & Reckless (O&R) – has been a force on the Canadian dance scene since the late 70’s. She trained at the National Ballet School and performed with the National Ballet of Canada, before moving into contemporary dance as a featured performer with the Toronto Dance Theatre and the Desrosiers Dance Theatre. Claudia founded Moonhorse Dance Theatre in 1996, as a home for her dance projects, creating a large body of her own works and performing commissioned works by Susie Burpee, Paul André Fortier, Susanna Hood, Christopher House, James Kudelka, Tedd Robinson and Gadfly (Apolonia Velasquez and Ofilio Sinbadinho). She established Older & Reckless, a performance series renowned for its celebration of mature dance artists, as part of MDT in 2000. In 2022 Claudia passed the Moonhorse leadership on to Artistic Director, Allison Cummings.

One of Canada’s most revered contemporary dancers, Claudia pursues her passion as an interpreter in commissioned works by acclaimed creators, in films (I am a hotel, a 1983 Canadian made for TV short musical film written by Leonard Cohen and Mark Shekter and directed by Allan F. Nicholls / Top of his Head,a 1989 Canadian comedy-drama film written and directed by Peter Mettler) and in various stage productions (Drinking by the late Daniel Brooks / Four Sisters by Susanna Fournier / Apocalypsis by the late R Murray Schafer / From the House of Mirth by James Kudelka / Eunoia by Denise Fujiwara).

Now a resident of West Kelowna BC, she is honoured to live, work and dance on the unceded, ancestral territory of the Syilx people. Since 2022, Claudia serves as the Dance West Network Community Dance Connector in Kelowna and has been active performing, teaching, mentoring and leading community dance events. Claudia enjoys teaching classes for older movers and continues to evolve as an interpreter in new works by Lina Cruz and Lesley Telford. Moore’s recent Vancouver performances include Dances for a Small Stage (2024, 2025), Inverso Production’s LIFT Festival (2025, 2026) and Dancing on the Edge (2025). She has received the Jacqueline Lemieux award for excellence in dance and has received a Dora Award for Best New Choreography (wishes 1997). Claudia is now a certified Dancing with Parkinson’s instructor and is grateful to bring joy through dance to those living with the disease.
